Route 21 Yard Sale – Take a Break From the Interstate

DW and Barbara Miles developed the idea and trademark for “Take A Break From The Interstate” in the early 1980’s when I-77 opened. The Miles Family prepared maps and made efforts to create Take A Break but the initiative became political and was dormant for many years.

Early in 2011 DW began to review his old plan and looked for new opportunities to launch his project. The Lakes to Florida Museum was established in Wytheville, VA and a  new Welcome Center was built in Jonesville, NC, leading the way for historical route 21 to be connected between them. The idea is to promote the US 21 corridor between North Carolina and
Virginia, creating JOBS for the people, and revenue for these small communities.

The “Take A Break From The Interstate” project has been a very successful marketing and promotional effort dedicated to encourage travelers to visit the towns of Jonesville, Elkin, Wilkes County, Sparta North Carolina, Independence, Elk Creek and Wytheville, Virginia. Implementing the project has been successful due to the enthusiastic support from all the towns, crossing both states, tourism agents and the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area to help fund the project.

Join us for a three day flea market from Wytheville, VA to Jonesville, NC!
