Opening the program is a neoclassical piece, Gershwin by George, a song & dance interpretation of one of America’s, and the world’s, most beloved music makers. Gershwin relied on intuition and “heart” and strived for a balance between the two, says directors Deanna Cole-Roberts and Deirdre Cole. This Gershwin piece reflects a natural, romantic flow of melody brightened with crisp rhythms and enriched with haunting, blue-tinctured harmonies. This original work is full of romantic and sassy choreography highlighted by Gershwin’s tunes featuring “I Got Rhythm,” “Someone to Watch Over Me,” and “Summertime.”
Echoes is a visionary journey well worth the taking. Otherworldly movement set to the music of Pink Floyd, this trip is full of haunting melodies, percussive instrumentation, & sometimes hard-hitting movement. Also on the program are contemporary pieces including Love & Purity, choreographed especially for The Highlands Ballet Company by professional dancer and choreographer Sean Hilton. Highlands Ballet will be joined in performance by Rammaru Shindo and Adam Crawford Chavis, professional dancers with Carolina Ballet in Raleigh, NC.
The Highlands Ballet Company brings originality and innovation to the stage with a wide range of performance opportunities. The HBC since 1994 has offered programs of cultural, educational and entertainment to the Highlands Area.
